=PWould be 10 stars if it had the plug-ins. *As a added note i'm okay with this model, but the archos 604 model which was only $10 more and ultra slim, but it had half the reselution and i don't think it supported as much format, came with all the plug-ins.
I don't know why people have volume problems but i love it, extremely loud in both speaker and headphones. This was the best player i could find and i got it at a VERY good price.
Sad honestly in a way, but still without them its great, but i might be getting the web browser some time. It synced with windows media player perfectly, so im just in loved with it cuase it plays my music and movies and keeps a copy of all my photos, even taking them in the folders i had them in on my hard drive.
But one major problem i have is that you have to pay extra to use the web browser feature ($30) and to use other feature such as internet tv/radio, cinema pack that includes more support of different formats, and a gaming plug-in ($20 for each of these). The choice is up to you.
Without it's still the best portable media player.
but really, if you absolutely need a PMP, I would recommend not getting this little guy. for the price I paid, this device wasn't worth it. get the archos 5 or an ipod touch.they area bit picier, but much, much better. really.i havent even tested the archos 5, and i'm pretty sure its more worth it. I would much rather buy a cheap netbook than buy another PMP or IMT. but really, if you ask me, don't even get a PMP. a cheap netbook has the same amount of hard drive space with actual RAM and a user interface like windows or linux, not to mention the speedy internet browsing.
The movie player worked great on our 3 hour plane ride. My only complaint is I wish the volume could go a tad higher than its current maximum. Otherwise, we liked it very much.
They don't make it easy for you to replace yourself because you need their OS installed. Now that the device is out of warranty the HD appeared to have failed.
That was my second mistake, I should've just gotten my money back. My first mistake was when I got this from Sharper Image when it was still in business, the device, promptly broke within a few days of purchasing, so I exchanged it for another one.
So their customer service sucked too. The battery stopped charging within a year so I got it repaired by Archos under warranty.
They took forever to send it back and NEVER responded to my emails. I've read that to replace the HD by Archos costs $200.
I was extremely gentle with so the device failure was not due to undue wear.
This is a really cool media player device and mine has worked flawlessly, BUT. Archos wants you to pay additionally to unlock 60% of it capabilities. Go to there website and see for yourself. Do yourself a favor and buy a netbook from Amazon.
